My Disney Style

My Disney wardrobe is quite extensive, consisting of 30 Disney-themed tops, 14 hats/headbands, and 20+ accessories and pins. With so many options, it can be hard to decide what to wear and when to wear it. Should I Disneybound or just wear a Mickey Mouse tee? Should I wear a non-Disney outfit with a pair of ears or go all out to the point where every item of clothing I’m wearing bars the face of a Disney character? My answer always depends on the parks and what I’m doing that day. If I’m going to eat at Crystal Palace where I can meet Pooh and friends, I’m going to either Disneybound one of the characters if I have the right clothing or wear something that relates to the characters. If I’m jut going out to Disney Springs, I’ll wear something stylish with just a sprinkle of Disney flair to it. The options are endless, and while that may sound daunting to some people, I embrace it with an eager attitude.

Hollywood’s New Views

Toy-Story-Land-to-Open-at-Disneys-Hollywood-Studios-on-June-30th-Toy-Story-Land-Concept-Art.jpgHollywood Studios has become something of an unnecessary park in the past few years, as in you can skip it in your vacation plans and you won’t be missing much. Aside from the draw of its three big attractions, Fantasmic!, and extreme Star Wars presence, the park is nearly as empty as the abandoned Tower of Terror. Thankfully, all that is about to change with the opening of Toy Story Land on June 30, 2018. With two brand new rides, Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers, and a whole new land to explore, this may just be the revival Hollywood Studios needs to regenerate public interest gain. I hope I’m able to visit soon, which will most likely be in September

The Incredibles 2 is Incredible Too

nieuwe-incredibles-2-trailer-uitgebracht-door-disney-126585-1For 14 years, we waited for a sequel to one of the most innovative superhero movies to ever grace the silver screen. There was an enormous amount of hype surrounding it, but would it be warranted or would it be an incredible let-down? (See what I did there?) Thankfully, it was a super success, receiving a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and generating the biggest opening weekend for an animated movie to date.

It captured the same essence as the original, sometimes even hitting the same familiar beats in its story while upping the quality of animation with new technology that wasn’t available back when the first one premiered in 2004. The family dynamic, which was the focal point of both movies, is still believable and one of the movie’s best parts. Combined with the highly improved action sequences and Elastigirl-centric plot, The Incredibles 2 makes its predecessor – and its fans – very proud.

The Perfect Castle Pic

No WDW trip is compete without the essential photo in front of the famous Cinderella Castle. However, no amount of Disney magic can remove the heavy crowds of people walking by, especially if it’s down the middle of Main Street, USA, or the people who are trying to capture that same exact photo right in front of the castle. Usually that photo ends up like the one below. Now I love R2-D2 as much as the next Star Wars fan, but I don’t want a little girl dressed as him intruding on my photo.IMG_3871

The solution? Ditch the conventional and find more unique, less crowded photo ops:

  1. The back of the castle. Significantly less trafficked and still just as beautiful.
  2. On the bridge to Tomorrowland.
  3. At night. The crowds are a lot thinner and the castle is beautifully illuminated.
  4. On the Peoplemover. A tricky pic to take, but the result is dreamy.
  5. Sitting on a fence in the hub. I took mine to the right side near the Plaza Restaurant.
  6. On the bench nearby Liberty Square on the left walkway into Fantasyland.

UP! A “Great” Bird Adventure

A review on Animal Kingdom’s new, but not really improved, show

UP-A-Great-Bird-Adventure

Animal Kingdom’s Flights of Wonder was replaced by a new and supposedly improved version of the lackluster show on April 22, 2018. Less than two months later on June 17, I sat in the stands, excited to see what Disney Imagineers had done to better the show. The answer? Hardly anything.

The addition of Pixar characters Dug and Russell did little for the show other than entertain younger children. Otherwise, they were unnecessary characters in a show which is supposed to focus on birds. In fact, they were barely ever on stage at the same time as the birds, popping in momentarily between scenes to deliver pointless dialogue and then leave.

The script itself fell flat, doing nothing to engage or captivate the audience, and the new host-like character of Anika also did not mesh well with the show, overacting her lines to the point where the people sitting in front of me were mocking her exaggerated dialogue and actions.

The only redeeming feature of the show is its birds, which do some fascinating things. Unfortunately, so much time is devoted to the needless characters of Russell, Dug, and Anika, that it takes away from the true stars of the show.

What was once a cheesy but generally entertaining show I would catch every once in a while is now a boring and pointless performance that I will actively try to skip from now on.
